The Hamburg baritone Jan Buchwald who sang a terrific Donner in the Daniel Barenboim Ring cycle at the 2013 BBC Proms has died at an early age.
He also sang the role with Barenboim at La Scala.
Jan Buchwald was a member of the Hamburg Staatsoper, from 2002 to 2015.

This is very sad news. I remember hearing him sing Brahms in a wonderful Fischer-Dieskau masterclass video. A superb voice, an intelligent singer. My condolences to his family.
That’s very sad…… he was a friendly colleague when I worked with him in that Ring project……his Donner was great! But I had this feeling that he didn’t seem too well….
I vividly rememember this wonderful singer as an extremely funny Pantalone in Prokofiev’s Love for Three Oranges at the Hamburger Staatsoper. He was an immensely valued and loved member of the company and he will be greatly missed. My deepest condolences to his family.
