Watch Natalia Ushakova recording an aria from “La fille du Regiment” for her new album “A Tribute to Maria Callas”

There’s this, too.

She doesn’t mind a bit of send-up, this artist.

    Look out Foster Jenkins!

  • AndrewB says:

Maria Callas never sang La Fille du Regiment. Her major Donizetti roles were Lucia and Anna Bolena. Therefore I don’t see how this aria fits on a Callas tribute album. The Die Walkure Brunhilde maybe as she sang one series of performances of this early on in her career.
Callas never used her voice in a manner that was musically sloppy. Even later when she had vocal difficulties she worked for clarity , precision, expression and of course she could trill. Surely then the singing on any tribute album should reflect those attributes too?

    Garbage. Simone Kermes 2.0

  • Sanda Schuldmann says:

    Nothing in common!

  • Michelle Schulman says:

Maria Callas had a chest connected voice. This singer does not.

  • HOLY KADOODLE! I love her!!!!

  • NYMike says:

    Intonation???

  • Silversled says:

Isn’t it time to let Maria Callas rest in peace? No tributes, no hologram nonsense, please. We have Callas’s recordings, and that’s all we need.

  • BrianB says:

Terrible blowzy, unfocused tone; and La Divina would tell her to go back to school and learn to trill.

  • Paul says:

Behold, the La Puma Opera Company has rolled into town.

  • Ramon Figueroa says:

I’d rather listen to Vera Galupe-Borszhk, soprano traumatica and gran diva of La Grande Scena. At least she means to sing that well (and there is more knowledge behind her spoofs).
