Anna Netrebko’s concert performance of Cilea’s Adriana Lecouvreur, together with her husband Yusif Eyvazov, is the early toast of the festival. First review here.

Odd, since she has sung it fully staged in Vienna.

Congratulations to Anna & Yusif. Rachevelishvili was happy to appear alongside the Russian artistes.

Nothing odd about it at all. Just because it isn’t a “premiere” performance, doesn’t mean it can’t be as spectacular. Anna does it well. Having seen Caballe, Sutherland, and Scotto all essay the part (perhaps all a bit late), I have to say that Anna nailed it, with voice and personality to spare. She understood the role and it was well with her present state of voice. Brava to her.

I was there. She was at the top. Sometimes the voice seemed too big for the role. He disappointed me after a very good Chénier two months ago in Vienna. There are only three concert performances because she has to go to Bayreuth for two Elsas in Lohengrin. The Princess of Bouillon was also extraordinary.

  • Alexander says:

She is always a good girl 😉

  • Hans says:

No suprise there. Salzburg has a very different crowd who loves and admires the stars. And Anna tops the list. She was very good, however, I found her even better than in Vienna. Rachvelishvili was a worthy opponent in every respect. She is a vocal tsunami. Unfortunatly, Eyvazov could not measure up to the best Maurizio of today, Beczala, alhough he was certainly not bad at all.
