The Austrian conductor Roberto Paternostro has announced on his website that, from September 2019, he will become music director of the Orquesta Filarmónica de Bogotá in Colombia. He adds: ‘The OFB was founded in 1967 and is one of South America’s leading orchestras’.

Staff at the OFB just woke up and smelled the coffee. They have told Slipped Disc that Mr Paternostro is not scheduled to conduct the orchestra in the coming season.

Some mistake, surely?

UPDATE: Two hours after this post appeared, the announcement was taken down from Paternostro’s site.

Clearly no ‘renvoi de l’ascenseur’ here.

“Two hours after this post appeared…”. I dare say this is so, but beware the common fallacy, “Post hoc ergo propter hoc.” Keep in mind the passenger on the Adrea Doria who switched on his cabin light upon the instant the ship rapidly sank into Davy Jones’ Locker, and was convinced he’d sunk it. You do, you will surely admit, have numerous ingenious ways of making most news posts, ‘news’ in particular, seem to be all about you and/or SD. These can become positively embarrassing to read at times. At our age, a touch more humility, dignity and gravitas should be the order of the day, and also make for better reading.

I didn’t detect any nefarious NL self-aggrandizement in this particular story, which is not to say it hasn’t occurred in other stories. The text just shows a reporter checking the veracity of a claim and noting the ultimate consequence of diligent reportage.

      • Peter says:

The point in question is whether the correction was a result of being reported on Slipped Disc (as implied). If so, then fine. If not, then NL is indeed claiming influence that doesn’t exist.

  • Sue Sonata Form says:

    Fake news.
