The Hong Kong-born conductor Jenny Wong has been appointed artistic director on an interim basis of the Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles (GMCLA), one of America’s largest LGBTQ ensembles.

Wong is Associate Conductor of the Los Angeles Master Chorale.

The GMCLA has faced recent upheavals, including the unexplained departure of its last conductor.

Interesting. Truly a diverse hiring choice given the exclusive nature of the ensemble.

  • M McAlpine says:

Would a straight men’s chorus be reckoned to be non-inclusive? How come this one is allowed then?

    • Bruce says:

I doubt that they actively exclude heterosexuals. Heterosexuals probably choose to exclude themselves, though.

I wonder if the fact that it’s an all-volunteer chorus might have something to do with it. If they do exclude straights, they’re not interfering with anyone’s ability to make a living.

      Oh dear, one of those.

Honey, I don’t think there’s any audition apart, perhaps, from a musical one. You don’t have to, you know, do it. So you can join!

Coming next: “And why can’t we have Straight Pride?”

      • Bone says:

Straight Pride Parade is in Boston with Milo Yiannopolis as the grand marshall. The group organizing the parade is called Super Happy Fun America.
        Can’t make this stuff up.

I heard James Levine is available.

  • Rich C. says:

There’s a real need for a gay men’s chorus. A gay man cannot possibly make it in the classical music business.
    Oh my the discrimination!

  • She’s not from a gay friendly country says:

She won’t be welcome in Hong Kong after taking this post!

  • Nightowl says:

She’s pretty cute! How can I audition to be a part of this Gay Men’s choir??
