The baritone has tied the knot with longterm girlfriend Hannah Stone, former harpist of the Prince of Wales. As of today, she’s Lady Terfel.

The venue was Caersalem Newedd Baptist Church in Hannah’s home town, Swansea.

We wish them every happiness.

“Harpist of the Prince of Wales”.
    I didn’t know that’s an actual thing!

    • Elizabeth Owen says:

Well of course it is. The harp is the official instrument of Wales and Charles is our Prince.

    • Gareth says:

The tradition of having a “Royal Harpist” from Wales petered out in the late 19th Century. Prince Charles decided to resurrect the position, and Catrin Finch was the first to be appointed to the post in the year 2000. There have been other holders of the title since.

    • Martin says:

Greg, for you information, the harp is of course the national instrument of Wales and the position of Royal Harpist to the Prince of Wales was created by Queen Victoria in 1871. It subsequently lapsed but was reinstated by HRH Prince Charles in 2000. He owns a £150,000 gold leaf Salvi harp gifted to him by the manufacturers in 2006 and it is this instrument that is used at all royal functions. The position is generally held for four years and Hannah Stone (the new Lady Terfel) was there from 2011-2015

  • Anon says:

wow crazy, I remember being at Schleswig Holstein Music Festival with her

  • Sue Sonata Form says:

More 50 something singers with diapers, coughs, colds and teenagers into their 60s. Pass.

    • Mario says:

100% agree. Maybe they want to feel in their 30s again while their former wives enter menopause. But Nature is what it is and Terfel(and Kaufamnn)look the age they really have;-)

      • david hilton says:

Your comment reveals a mind that believes a man chooses the woman he will fall in love with based on her age. He doesn’t.

  • Paul Carlile says:

….”the baritone has tied the know with longterm girlfriend….”(??). Shurely shome mishtake…? That’s knot what you meant to say.

Knot that it’s relevant, but how nice that the newlyweds were wed in Newedd Baptist Church!

    All happiness to them.

    • MIKE_T says:

I see what you tried to do there, but sadly it doesn’t work as Norman also managed to spell “Newydd” incorrectly. But hey!, it’s only Welsh, so near enough for London-centric media types 😉

  • Greg Bottini says:

Many thanks to all of you who wrote in with information about the position of “Royal Harpist to the Prince of Wales”.
Lovely thing of Prince Charles to do, reinstating the position.
I remember many years ago a series of Bernstein CDs on Sony, each with a different painting on the cover.
Is my memory faulty (should I say “Fawlty”?), or were those Charles’ paintings?

    • sycorax says:

If my memory doesn’t fail me totally it were paintings by Charles. And in the deepest depths of my CD shelves I’d probably even find two or three of these CDs …
