Message from his PRs:

Michael Tilson Thomas had a successful heart operation at the Cleveland Clinic and is recovering well. The doctors have called the procedures a complete success and have said that his heart is performing at 100%. He is currently recuperating at the Clinic and will return to the San Francisco area in the near future where he will spend the summer convalescing and preparing to open the 2019–20 seasons of the San Francisco Symphony (September 4) and New World Symphony (October 12).

    Wonderful!

Glad to see Cleveland has the top orchestra and the top heart clinic in the country.

So the top medical schools and hospitals, UCSF and Stanford, and the top biotech companies, all in the Bay Area, can’t provide decent heart healthcare?

Not even at UCLA’s David Geffen Medical School? (Hey, when you got money, why spend it all on classical music)

    • Cardiac care in the U.S. is outstanding in many cities as well as universities. Since we do not know the nature of MTT’s procedure, none of us are in a position to judge why the Cleveland Clinic was where he chose to have it done. But I am sure that his doctors made the decision after much consultation and determined that this was the hospital which would best serve his needs. Having gone through two different heart surgeries, I can certainly attest to the outstanding care for those of us with cardiac conditions. I wish Michael the very best in his recovery and urge rest, rehabilitation and physical therapy. We need him healthy for his 75th birthday.

        Dear Maestro Slatkin,

What a huge patience to explain something that for classy people is out of reason to even questionning.
We are all glad about MTT health news, regardless some provincial sectionalism such the question you took your time to answer.
        Thanks

The Cleveland Clinic presently is the top-rated U.S. hospital for cardiology and heart surgery in the annual U.S. News ratings, followed by the Mayo Clinic. Hospitals have different strengths, even within specialties. The comment regarding the UCLA medical school is nonsensical.

I’m a fourth generation Californian and I don’t get what your point is. For a specialized heart operation – and if you have a bit of money, of course – you’re going to go where you can get the BEST operation possible. For a few days, I don’t think anybody is going to care that the view out the window is of the lake or Euclid Ave.

Many more concerts to come and hopefully more compositions from MTT!

  • Rgiarola says:

September 6th and 8th, he will be conducting SFSO along Hard Rock legend Metallica at Chase center. It is already confirmed his participation.

    • Karl says:

The guys in Metallica are almost as old as MTT.

      • Rgiarola says:

Not really dear Karl. They were born in 1963/62. So around 56, 57 years old.
Let’s say that they had a kind of life that took a huger tool in their semblances probably. LoLoL

  • Greg Bottini says:

    Best of health, maestro….
