Press Release
Opera of Lyon, June 3, 2019

The Opera of Lyon will revive the recruitment process of the director general (HF) of the opera of Lyon, under the auditions that took place in may.
The Recruitment jury concluded, after reviewing the projects given by the shortlisted candidates and auditions, to hold no candidate.
A new call for application will be relaunched soon for a desired appointment by the fall.

This was the last man in charge, and he was widely loathed.

  • Staatsoper says:

Would Dominque Meyer be interested if he doesn’t land La Scala?

    • Eric B says:

Wouldn’t there be an age limit problem ? Otherwise, he’d probably be the most perfect candidate.

Apart from that, Dorny is so irreplaceable ! Ah, ah, ah….

    • Sanity says:

He’s barred by age-limit, as he is for all French theatres.

A more obvious choice would be his Casting Director at Vienna, Stephanie Wippel. Boris Ignatov at Stuttgart might want his own theatre, now. Also could be a good fit for someone like Berthold Schneider…

  • John Rook says:

Shouldn’t be a problem finding someone equally as unpopular.

  • Eric B says:

I would vote for a Christophe Bezzone, ex right arm of Jean-Marie Blanchard, for so many years. And has gone through a number of major european houses with a 0-fault track, knows the repertoire, the voices, the organization of top opera houses, is widely respected and liked in the field, and would be, as a human being, a perfect relief for everyone involved, after all these years of hell.

  • Eric B says:

“This was the last man in charge…”
    He still IS in charge…

    “and he was widely loathed.”
    Indeed. And still IS.

  • Alexander Tarak says:

I’m available (at half price too).
