Leeds names jury chair

The English pianist Imogen Cooper will chair the Leeds International Piano Competition in September 2021.

Royal Liverpool Phil will continue as orchestral partner.

    It’s a great shame (some would say an injustice) that the Orchestra of Opera North isn’t contracted to provide the backing for the soloists – after all, their main raison d’etre is accompanying other top-class musicians. (And they are local players!!)

      Completely agree! A superb orchestra with an enormous experience in the art of accompanying!!!

      It’s a shame, but not a surprise. There’s always a certain amount of snobbery about a provincial opera orchestra and they are also currently without a chief conductor. Even when they had the wonderful Richard Farnes, he still didn’t bring the same clout as Elder or Petrenko. It’s pity they can’t share the load though, like BBCNOW and WNO seem to do for Cardiff Singer of the World.
