  • Karl says:

I’ve heard Sirena Huang play several times in Hartford. I missed her in the Montreal competition a couple of years ago. Very talented! You go girl!

  • James says:

Oh, good to see Mone Hattori is taking part. She’s really got something special about her. Certain she’ll be a big star of the future, regardless of the competition!

  • Stephen says:

Sergei Dogadin already won top prize here in 2011. This is super shady. Now wait for the announcement that his teacher Boris Kuschnir is on the jury …. Wait for it … as Kuschnir was when he won Hannover and Singapore. Sergei’s a good violinist but is embroiled in corruption.

    • Greg says:

Boris Kuschnir IS on the jury…

      • norman lebrecht says:

Which of the 25 are his students?

        • May says:

This is so damn fishy. Kuschnir is also known to take 1/2 the prize money from this students. This smells like rotten Russian eggs. Where can we see the complete jury?

        • Stephen says:

Not sure of any others in this list. Dogadin is certainly Kuschnir’s prized fighter. They’ve been doing the rounds as a team for the last few years. Even sharing some juries together to aid Kuschnir’s other younger students. Nobody is disputing Kuschnir is a very good teacher, but he’s bathing in corruption, and has been all his life. When will competitions wake up and ban him once and for all???? Kuschnir, Bron, Wegrzyn … untouchable.

          • Stephen says:

Repeat after me … “Kuschnir, Bron, Wegrzyn … untouchable!” “Kuschnir, Bron, Wegrzyn … untouchable.” Thank you. That’s all.

          • Stephen says:

O look! Mikhail Kopelman plays in a string quartet with … Boris Kuschnir! How sweet for them to get a nice catchup in Moscow!!

      • Pauker says:

        Yup.. bummer

  • Greg says:

    Just my opinion…..
Look at the list. To me, it looks as rigged as ever before it even started. The pool of 24 selected contestants are mostly, Russians, students of Russian teachers or closely related European teachers, former participants/winners of Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Artists, mostly Russian judges and so on…. Putting all those aside in only 24 invitations, there are just very few spots for others with no relations… My guess is after all those preferred selections, they picked a very few international competition winners on their resume and make the competition look “international”, referring to their nationalities, to fill the pool. It’s pathetic.

    Again, just my personal view.

  • Stephen says:

Here is jury: MARTIN T:SON ENGSTROEM, SALVATORE ACCARDO, KRISTÓF BARÁTI, MICHAEL HAEFLIGER, MIKHAIL KOPELMAN, SERGEI KRYLOV, BORIS KUSCHNIR, ELMAR OLIVEIRA, ALEXEI SHALASHOV, DMITRY SITKOVETSKY, AKIKO SUWANAI AND VIKTOR TRETIAKOV.

Viktor Tretiakov even started a competition last year, with Kuschnir on the jury, for Sergei to win.

This is all ridiculous. I wish the World Federation would step up and kick this cesspool out.

  • Pauker says:

I like Donghyun Kim. Having followed him for several years, I think he is an honest, insightful musician.

  • Zirbitz says:

Milan Al- Ashhab, the winner of the Kreisler Competition,is from an independant corner. His studies at the mdw in Vienna.
