Opera tenor, 63, dies while teaching class

The South African tenor Sidwill Hartman collapsed and died whle teaching students at the Uinversity of Capetown’s Opera School last week.

Jeremy Silver, director of the UCT Opera School, said  ‘he was such a wonderful singer. We would always speak about the different students at the school and he was always so supportive towards the students, they just loved him.’

    RIP Sidwell. Sang with him many times. Fine singer and generally nice guy.

    I sang in a couple of productions with Sidwill in the 1990s. He was a generous colleague with a beautiful voice. He will be sadly missed.
