Kaufmann’s out of Vienna’s 150th gala

The tenor’s still coughing.

The open-air, free-to-air programme now reads:

„Dich teure Halle …“ aus Tannhäuser (Richard Wagner) Nina Stemme
„Ha, welch ein Augenblick“ aus Fidelio (Ludwig van Beethoven) Tomasz Konieczny
„Come dal ciel precipita“ aus Macbeth (Giuseppe Verdi) Jongmin Park
„Va, pensiero“ aus Nabucco (Giuseppe Verdi) Chor der Wiener Staatsoper
„Dove sono“ aus Le nozze di Figaro (Wolfgang A. Mozart) Olga Bezsmertna
„Fin ch’an dal vino“ aus Don Giovanni (Wolfgang A. Mozart) Erwin Schrott
„Là ci darem la mano“ aus Don Giovanni (Wolfgang A. Mozart) Valentina Naforniţă, Erwin Schrott
„Pourquoi me réveiller“ aus Werther (Jules Massenet) Benjamin Bernheim
„Glück, das mir verblieb“ aus Die tote Stadt (Erich W. Korngold) Camilla Nylund
„O tu Palermo“ aus I vespri siciliani (Giuseppe Verdi) Ferruccio Furlanetto
Duett „Già nella notte densa“ aus Otello (Giuseppe Verdi) Roberto Alagna, Aleksandra Kurzak

It’s a loooooooong way from Vienna’s golden years, isn’t it?

    Indigestible program whoever’s singing.

Where is Netrebko? She is there for Chénier.

  • Sue Sonata Form says:

Having an infant child, though wonderful, does expose parents the illness all the time. This is part and parcel of having children until some immunity develops. Been there/done that.

    • Nola Colman says:

I would rather he had a bug from his kids than the trauma of choking and forceful coughing. He must be so frustrated. Glad he is letting Drs. call the shots. Be patient, rest…Die tote Stadt and Peter Grimes (YES!) are in his future

      • Jana says:

It seems a lot of time for a choking cough… and it makes it difficult for us opera-goers to buy expensive tickets and get a second best.

  • sycorax says:

Perhaps his wife should already start cooking mash? The baby is probably too young for it, but Daddy Jonas could do with some of it. There the risk of coughing isn’t so high.
