Kaufmann’s out of Vienna’s 150th gala

The tenor’s still coughing.

The open-air, free-to-air programme now reads:

„Dich teure Halle …“ aus Tannhäuser (Richard Wagner) Nina Stemme
„Ha, welch ein Augenblick“ aus Fidelio (Ludwig van Beethoven) Tomasz Konieczny
„Come dal ciel precipita“ aus Macbeth (Giuseppe Verdi) Jongmin Park
„Va, pensiero“ aus Nabucco (Giuseppe Verdi) Chor der Wiener Staatsoper

  • Having an infant child, though wonderful, does expose parents the illness all the time. This is part and parcel of having children until some immunity develops. Been there/done that.

    • I would rather he had a bug from his kids than the trauma of choking and forceful coughing. He must be so frustrated. Glad he is letting Drs. call the shots. Be patient, rest…Die tote Stadt and Peter Grimes (YES!) are in his future

      • It seems a lot of time for a choking cough… and it makes it difficult for us opera-goers to buy expensive tickets and get a second best.

  • Perhaps his wife should already start cooking mash? The baby is probably too young for it, but Daddy Jonas could do with some of it. There the risk of coughing isn’t so high.
