We hear that principal flute Gareth Davies has stepped down as the orchestra’s chair.

His successor is David Alberman, principal second violin.

No woman has ever held the job, so far as we recall.

    What now?
How other orchestras are going to react?
Is he going to be forgiven ?

  • Esther Cavett says:

Mr Alberman used to be 2nd violin in the Arditti Quartet, as fact did the former LSO chairman Lennox Mackenzie. Representing the orch must be a walk in the park after dealing with all that complex stuff which the Ardittis did. I mean, how on earth do you learn the Ferneyhough 2nd Q ?
