Sad news indeed. I first had the great pleasure of hearing him and his trio at the Edinburgh Festival when the Director Peter Diamand introduced late night concerts at the Usher Hall. He was a superb pianist and his Bach arrangements utterly fascinating. I was not such a fan of arrangements of other composers but I still play his Bach regularly.

News that strikes deep. His Bach arrangements were surprising and exciting, new — this amidst a tide of jazz bach littering the musical shore like plastic on the beach.

He often played the original unadorned before venturing off road, always preserving the harmonic and rhythmic tension that are central, IMO.

Musical to the absolute core. Will be missed.
