Message from the Fort Worth Symphony musicians:

It is with heavy hearts that we share the sad news that Laura Bruton, longtime Principal Viola of the FWSO, has passed away after a long battle with cancer.

Laura was an integral part of our orchestra, having been a part of the ensemble as it grew from a chamber orchestra to the major symphony orchestra it is today. She was a no-nonsense leader, but she was also a source of great wisdom and humor. Mostly we will remember her for her beautiful playing and her never-ending spirit.

This afternoon’s concert was dedicated to Laura’s memory. Music is such an important part of occasions both happy and sad, and it meant a lot for us to play together as a musical family to celebrate the life of our dear friend and colleague.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to her loving family, including her husband, former FWSO Principal Tuba Don Little. We will all miss her greatly.

I am saddened to hear of this loss. Laura was in the same viola studio with me at the N.C. School of the Arts many years ago. Everyone always knew she was destined for greatness as she was a fantastic musician. Condolences to her family and friends, and to her colleagues in the FWSO.
