Chris Vezey posted this morning that he’s recording jingles with orchestra and chorus in Prague for Scala Radio, the new classical station which launches next month.

Chris is one of the pioneers of classical commercial broadcasting in the UK. Among the founders of Classic FM, he was its head of Programming from 1991 to 1998. He went on to launched Lyric FM in Ireland, followed by PrimeTime Radio and Saga (now Smooth Radio).

Scala is planting its tanks on Classic’s sleepy lawn. Not to mention snooze BBC Radio 3.

Yes. Recording jingles in Prague as they are unwilling to pay MU rates for a superior product! Thanks for supporting British musicians.

  • Mark Pemberton says:

Not a great start, using a Czech rather than a British orchestra

  • I presume this will be another internet station not available in the US?

  • Gerry says:

Looking forward to hearing Simon Mayo on this new station. He has to be the best radio presenter ever, great humor, great knowledge, and lovely to listen to. Forget BBC these days

    • Christopher Storey says:

I’d never heard of Simon Mayo, but now having seen a few clips of him, I can predict that I shall not be listening to Scala FM

  • Christopher Storey says:

How many months do you give it ? Jingles ??? Oh crikey , spare us !!! At least I hope this fellow may have learned something from the launch of Classic FM, when it sounded as though they had all of 5 CDs to play over the initial 6 months or so

    • Stweart says:

They don’t have that many more now,and apart from the crass commercials,do they need to brain wash their listeners by telling them umpteen times an hour “This is CLASSIC FM” ?

      • Al Morr says:

Yes, sometimes they tell you as many as three time that “This is Classic FM between the music, despite that I still like to listen to it sometimes, it will be interesting it compares wih Scala.

  • Anthony Gigliotti says:

I listen to online classical radio all day at work and would be happy with complete works (minimal warhorses) with minimal talking, save announcing each selection. Is that unreasonable?
