As if.

One is a global mega-brand, the other is barely known beyond Salford.

In Leipzig, however, where the football club is struggling, the Red Bulls went on bended knee to the city’s major brand, the Gewandhausorchester, to request a joint promo video.

  • Brian says:

So being placed 4th in the Bundesliga is now considered “struggling”? Please elaborate, Mr Lebrecht.

  • Ellen Jones says:

The Halle is barely known beyond Salford??? Good grief, what’s wrong with you?

    • Ellingtonia says:

Norman still thinks that you need a passport to visit Manchester……………and the Halle would put most of the London Orchestras to shame for performance, but as we all know Norman hasn’t sussed that there is public transport between London and Manchester which would enable him to view the Bridgewater Hall (yes Norman, we have a concert hall up north) and hear them perform, and just for good measure we have another excellent orchestra in the BBC Philharmonic. Dear oh dear Norman, you can be a right “chav” at times!

      • Adrienne says:

“and the Halle would put most of the London Orchestras to shame for performance”

Now that is just plain silly.

You’re just replacing one form of prejudice with another.

        • Ellingtonia says:

Only silly to the “metropolitan elite” who never venture further north than the M25, no doubt exempting your good self who makes regular forages to Manchester, Birmingham, Liverpool and even “the land god gave to cain” i.e. Gateshead!

      • Jimjim says:

Don’t let the silly man rattle you, he does it on purpose. Best if we all ignore his “Sunsational”! opening lines.

    • Allen says:

Very rough and ready survey of Google hits:

      “Halle Orchestra” 156,000
      “Gewandhausorchester Leipzig” 557,000
“City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra” 289,000
      “London Symphony Orchestra” 6,210,000

He might, repeat might, have a point.

  • Max says:

What are you talking about? RB Leipzig is one of the major players in the Bundesliga, even played Champions League a couple of seasons ago.

  • Geoff says:

If they are not struggling in their league are they struggling financially?

  • Luigi Vercotti says:

The Gewandhaus orchestra is subsidized “out the yin-yang” by taxpayers money. They made losses for many years and it is difficult to find exact information on their current financial position. So their support of the soccer club is likely to be more moral than material.

  • Chris says:

Currently sixth in the English Premiership, ‘The Red Devils’ (as they used to be known) need every bit of help they can get. Maybe the Halle has a good striker (try the percussion section) or even a good goalkeeper!
