We have been informed of the death of Nikola Mitic on January 25 in Belgrade.

He sang in most of the leading European houses, carrying on well past 70.

  • Viola da Bracchio says:

He excelled in the Verdi repertoire – Germont Pere, Macbeth, and particularly Renato (Ballo) A fine and distinguished career, to the last.

  • jan neckers says:

Memories. When I had time I tried to assist at rehearsals in our magnificent Studio 4 at Flemish Public Radio and Television at Flageyplein in Elsene. In 1968 a very promising Dutch soprano and a young Serbian rehearsed for an Opera and Belcantoconcert. The lady was Christine Deutekom and the gentleman Nicola Mitic. He had a solid baritone voice with splendid top notes. It was not very refined singing with phrasing you remembered but the sound was big and healthy as my tapes prove. From that moment on he sang a lot in those concerts which suddenly ended when the producer died in surgery.
