Sondra Radvanovsky was meant to be singing the title role in Verdi’s Aida on four night next month.

She has pulled out ‘for personal reasons’.

The American Kristin Lewis is her replacement.

Unusual to get a cancellation on Christmas Eve. Must be serious.

  • V.Lind says:

Sorry for Met attendees. She’s a wonderful Verdi singer, probably as good as any of her generation. But I believe I have heard of problems in her life in recent months. Hope all goes well for her — such a luminous talent.

Sondra Radvanovsky isn’t Canadian. She was born in a suburb of Chicago. A little bit of fact-checking might be a good idea.

    • norman lebrecht says:

She took Canadian citizenship two years ago and has proclaimed herself ever since to be a true Canadian.

      • V.Lind says:

You’re right — she married a Canadian and has lived here ever since. I saw her in a recital in Canada a couple of summers ago and she chatted a lot to the audience, largely about her feelings for Canada and her identification with it.

  • Elaine says:

Kristin Lewis is amazing!! Sorry for Sondra, but the Met audiences will NOT be disapponted!!
