Intriguing, but Youtube mp3 “sound quality” of 128 kbit/s delivers less than 10% of the acoustic information on a CD, and the puny electronics on a mobile phone devalue that to a standard more adequate to appreciate “Marshmellow and Bastille” or “Sheck Wes” than classical grand piano.
Lately I have been playing and enjoying Ilic’s recordings of piano music by Reicha. Not the most imaginative or original of composers to be sure but some fine work among the pedestrian stuff.
For Chopin, my choice is the Bosendorfer, for its gorgeous, mellow sound. For the jazz piece, I like both Bosendorfer and Steinway, but will go with the Steinway, as the Bosendorfer is perhaps a bit too subdued for jazz. I only wished Mr. Koller hadn’t played Chopin like he hated it – such metronomic, stiff, and lifeless playing…
