The National Arts Centre in Ottawa has named Arna Einarsdóttir as its new managing director.

Arna, 50, has been head of the Iceland Symphony Orchestra for the past five years.

She has turned a a deficit into profit and signed Yan Pascal Tortelier as chief conductor and Osmo Vänskä as principal guest.

She’ll move to Ottawa in spring 2019.

Same latitude, give or take an ice floe.

(NB: I gave up geography at 12).

No, no, no, Ottawa is at 45 degrees north, like Milan and Reykjavik at 64 degrees!! A major difference. Of course, Ottawa may have a colder winter but it gets far more daylight and sun. Anyway, congratulations to Arna. And to the NAC Orchestra which she will run.
