Death of a major opera director, 65
mainThe international opera director Eimuntas Nekrosius has died in hospital in his native Lithunia. Among many eye-catching productions, he staged a Macbeth at the Maggio Musicale in Florence with white snakes on stage.
There was also a Faust at La Scala, Boris Godunov in Venice and a body of work at the Bolshoi.
The president of Lithuania was among the first to issue a tribute.
