A trumpet legend dies at 49
mainThe trumpet virtuoso and bandleader Roy Hargrove died on Friday night of cardiac arrest in a New York hospital, where he had been admitted with kidney failure.
He had been on dialysis for several years.
Hargrove, a protege of Wynton Marsalis, was seen as a bridge between jazz traditions and contemporary hip-hop.

How sad! I heard him play a couple of times when he turned up for a late-night jam session at a club, and generously played along with students and talented amateurs for free. He was a fabulous player and musician.
Really sad. I gravitate toward trumpeters with a nice fat sound and Hargrove was that and more. I consider the hiphop distractions of talented younger jazz musicians unfortunate detours from the jazz mainstream. S
o for me, 2008’s “Earfood” was a high point. RIP Roy Hargrove. You will be missed.
