Argerich — she who is boycotting North America because she doesn’t like how US and Canadian orchestras are treating her ex-husband for alleged sexual assault — is a curator of an international human rights prize?

Surprised she didn’t give just it to Dutoit, for “male martyrdom against female liars.”

    • Caravaggio says:

I couldn’t have said it better. The hypocrisy in this cesspool of a classical music business knows no bounds.

    • Gazelle says:

I could not believe to read such mediocre and ignorant comment as you Anon that you posted. What are you following and who are you to post such words? As Venezuelan American, I am proud of Mrs. Gabriela Montero professionalism, caring and her vibrant personality. She irradiates beauty and accomplished the mission of an artist and it is the commintment to share the facts of the abuses of the Tyranny in Venezuela. Only ignorants and liiers as you is what we get in our lives that ruins the wellbeing of the planet. Thanks Gabriela there is not a silence when we need to speak out the facts of the abuses. And you Anon you are not different of the ones that fabricates lies to ruin lives of others. You must seek professional help, you must change your behavior, sad that you did not get ethics and any kind of moral education in your home. I will pray for you and anyone close to you, because we need prayers for to bring wellness to the planet for to protect for a better world. Glad to see that the true at the end prevails over the evil.

Pace, my dear Gazelle, pace, of course Montero deserves the prize, and much more than 10,000 euros at that, considering that music prizes routinely go for 100,000 euros these days, as SD has highighted.

Surprised she didn’t give just it to Dutoit, for “male martyrdom against female liars.”

And yet she didn’t. Does that say something about her?

    • LUIS A. VEGAS says:

…and where’s the proof of this?

Or you’re just another chavista creating unfounded gossip…

  • Antonio Szabo says:

Gabriela is not only an exceptional pianist but a true defender of Venexuela against the sadistic Marco – government that oppresses the Venezuelan people.Unfortunately , the Marco- government has been using “El Sistema “ as political propaganda. “ El Sistema” , it has been shown also showed many symptoms of corruption. Those who attack Gabriela are doing that on behalf of the narco- government and the corrupt leadership of “ El Sistema” . To all my friends and acquaintances , please express your support for this brave musician! Thank you.

  • Luis Magallanes says:

Gabriela Montero changed my life. Seven months ago I was just surviving in Venezuela, six hours from Caracas in the middle of the country. Without food, medicine or opportunity to have a future.

I wrote to Gabriela as a stranger on social media and asked for help because she was talking so much about our tragedy. Many people talk on social media, but not many people take actions. Gabriela answered my messages. I sent her a video of my singing. After that she arranged everything. She made two fundraisers online, and raised about 25,000 euros with very generous help from amazing colleagues like Joyce Didonato, Tara Erraught, John Daszak and many others. With Tara’s help, a full scholarship was arranged on the postgraduate singing course at the Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin. Gabriela took care of everything. My flight, my full scholarship, my study visa application, an apartment in Dublin, and so much more. But that is not all. I arrived in Europe on May 4th. We met for the first time at the airport in Barcelona. The first day we cried together for hours. I stayed in her family home for the next four months and she treated me like family until I left for Dublin. She sent medicine packages to my family, and to other families. She sent money to help out, to my family and to other musicians who she has never met. All of this, she did for me and for others without asking for anything back. Nothing.

Gabriela has always told the truth about our tragedy. She has not made money from our tragedy. She risks everything for the truth. With her genius in music she has told our story. But even more than that genius, she is a human being. This is why I am happy for Gabriela that she has this award.

Muchas Gracias por tanto Maestra bella!

What, they didn’t award it to those multi-millionaire heroes of the people’s socialist utopian republic, Sean Penn, Danny Glover or Michael Moore? I’m shocked!

Gabriela Montero is a great pianist. That is a fact. Also facts are her continuous use of media to help the cause of fellow Venezuelans that are suffering from lack of human rights, food, water, electricity and freedom. We, those who have family members and acquaintances in Venezuela can only be thankful to her for her brave efforts.

Oh, thanks for sharing that. Says volumes about your ability to comprehend the context and purpose of this award.

Let me see if I can help you: Beethoven Prize for HUMAN RIGHTS, PEACE, FREEDOM, ANTI-POVERTY and INCLUSION

    • Everyone’s A Critic! says:

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is Esfir Ross, famous Maldovan dental assistant living in Oakland who has never heard Montero play Beethoven, and whose authority as a critic can be measured by perousing her video offerings (she is an amateur pianist, of course) on YouTube!

I am writing in the behalf of a well educated with principles besides the music skills. Very professional and very brave in to be out spoken of the horrendous tragedy happening in our Venezuela. To read the beautiful words about Gabriela Montero reflects same experiences I witnessed and same appreciation and admiration about the moral integrity to stand up to be the voice for those who are vulnerables. Ignorance and lack of integrity is also what I am reading in these site from people who are part of the harrasment and framing innocents with insults and intimidation in Venezuela. Can you imagine disminishing is what is about those partners with the Tyranny. For that reason, I have to say that Gabriela Montero is brave and with courages to face them. Those individuals are capable to do anything bad, anyone who speak out is killed or silenced or tortured. Glad that she still free as well myself for to speak out., otherwise perhaps we were killed because we are out spoken of all the atrocities toward the people in Venezuela. Lack of medicines, harrasment, all the industrial destroyed and also discriminates to anyone who is not part of their cartel.
