BBC will open access to its classical archive
mainThe Director-general Tony Hall is due to announce plans this week to make the BBC’s back catalogue of classical music available online.
Hall says it will mean historic and recent performances are ‘returned to the public’, via BBC iPlayer and the BBC Sounds app.
They will not be generally available outside the UK.
Thank the gods for something called VPN
Happily you won’t need VPN, or to wait, for this:

I’ve had half a century to get over it.
Perhaps I should sue – at least this old grievance has evidence to back it up.
Wasn’t that Leonard Slatkin not LSO?
Barenboim, LSO
No bare arms either these days in the LSO!
I’ve used VPNs to access BBC TV programs from the US, and it works pretty well. Still, it’s a shame we have to do it that way. I think BBC needs to hire some better lawyers to work out international distribution deals. It is the 21st century…
But no doubt, one would be obliged to create an account, even to access content for which a TV licence is not required.
