The violinist has opened up to Bunte magazine:  ‘I find the concept of having a long-lasting good relationship more attractive than a short-lived one. Unfortunately it did not work out for me.’

Mutter, 55, has been married twice. She divorced Andre Previn in 2006.

  • Jonathan Dunsby says:

Both her husbands were far older than her

      • Alex Davies says:

In the case of Detlef Wunderlich, his age is not irrelevant, since it was his death that brought an end to their marriage after only five years. Even allowing for the fact that he died from cancer at a relatively young age, had Anne-Sophie been the same age as him they would have had many more years together and she would not have been widowed in her early 30s. In the case of André Previn, it may well be that the age difference of approximately 34 years had nothing at all to do with their divorcing after a fairly brief marriage.

  • Anon says:

I have loved Miss Mutter for a very long time.

  • Quintus Beckmesser says:

Whatever happened to Previn? I haven’t seen anything about him for years.

  • M McAlpine says:

The life of an itinerant musician does not go well with married life. Previn himself admitted as much.

    • Alex Davies says:

Was it really ‘the life of an itinerant musician’ that did for Previn’s five marriages? There are certainly itinerant musicians who have managed to stay married to the same person for life. Vladimir Ashkenazy and his wife Dody, for example, have been married for 57 years.

      • jpmp says:

He was an itinerant musician throughout all of those marriages. But maybe you have insights into his personal life that the rest of us don’t have.

        • Alex Davies says:

I have only the same insights as everybody else, namely, that several of his former wives have complained very publicly about his numerous infidelities. Also, he is on record as stating that one of his children does not exist on account of his disapproving of her choice of husband. None of this has anything to do with his lifestyle as an itinerant musician. It is quite possible to be an itinerant musician and to remain faithful to one’s wife. Have you ever heard a word of scandal about Ashkenazy or, say, Jon Vickers or Johan Botha?

      • Joe says:

Previn was a notorious womanizer. When he and Mutter split, an article came out on a magazine that the age difference was a problem. She wanted to go with her friends at night and he wanted her to stay home and be in bed by 9 catering to his whims. They had little in common other than music.

  • Jonathan Dunsby says:

=I trust you don’t think that is a lot of money to purchase an apartment in Manhattan?

No, but Anne-Sophie got the 2.5m house in Munich, Heather got the estate in Surrey, and so on.
Actually there were interviews a couple of years with AP in an obviously large Manhattan appartment – so I guess he’s now downsizing

  • Her Royal Snarkiness says:

This site has “slipped” into Entertainment Tonight territory. Kind of a guilty pleasure, hopeless but not serious.

  • JB says:

She’s only 55. When you seek out older men, there is always the possibility that they won’t work out because of that huge age difference. It’s unfortunate that her 1st husband died when he was only in his fifties, I believe she really loved him. But if she thought about someone in her own age group and maybe travelled less , then she could still find someone. It sucks to be alone, I hope she find someone.

    • Myrtar says:

She really loved her first husband and he is the father of her children. It might be that she never got over it and future relationships will always be compared to that “unfinished” relationship due to his untimely death. It is extremely lonely to be a traveling musician and the responsibility of being a single parent (although she has no money issues to raise them) is still very big.

  • Jaime Herrera says:

I am not a Mutter fan by any means. Everyone (in the music business) knows that she has had numerous affairs with older men, whom she prefers. Remember Preucil, Levine, Bernstein, etc.? Everyone knew, too.

    • Hugh Allen says:

So? Good luck to her. As a person she is forceful and vigorous. It shows in her performance. So what if she has preferences?
