Evan Rogister has been signed as Principal Conductor up to 2021–2022.

Rogister, 38, is presently in charge of Gothenburg’s Ring cycle.

He’s half-German, but no-one in Trumptown is flagging that up.

The Washington National Opera has also renewed Francesca Zambello as artistic director until 2021.

A friend saw the 2012 Bluebard and Erwartung in Seattle, and told me Rogister had an impressive grip on the Bartok at least (he doesn’t like Erwartung and couldn’t really comment).

  • MacroV says:

Oh for crying out loud, enough with the Trump references! I dislike him as much as anyone, but he has no connection to the performing arts in DC or, for that matter, in the United States.

And DC is not “Trumptown.” There is probably no place in the United States (aside perhaps from Manhattan) where is he less popular.

    • Doug says:

You have to remember “literally Hitler” lives inside every leftist’s empty head scaring them with the occasional “ooga booga! I’m a racist!”

      • MacroV says:

That’s even worse. I am very much a leftist, but would never call Trump a “Hitler.” I don’t engage is his sort of hyperbole or your type of generalization. As for Norman, he mostly likes clicks.

  • Don Ciccio says:

Nothing against Mr. Rogister, but Washington Opera screwed up big time but not renewing Philippe Auguin’s after he gave the company its greatest triumph: The Ring. Mr. Auguin is one of the few conductors hired by the company that can actually keep the pit and the stage in sync. In any case, good luck to Mr. Rogister.

As for Zambello, the less said the better.

  • Anonymous Tenor says:

There are definite reasons for Mo. Auguin not being renewed and they are all offstage. I’ll leave it at that.

  • Robert Holmén says:

Actual Trumptown would be the one block of NYC on which Trump Tower squats.

And the McDonald’s down the street.

    • NYMike says:

Trump Tower sits on less than 1/4 of the block. Trump bulldozed Bonwit Teller in the middle of the night just before it was to be landmarked. He then proceeded to build his tower with undocumented labor – you know, the people he’s now denying US entry to.

  • John Rook says:

Sounds like an intelligent appointment. He’s been provoking a lot of interest over here in Yoorop recently.
