Klaus Florian Vogt, who sang Walther von Stolzing in Bayreuth’s Meistersinger this summer, has dropped out of the same role at the Bavarian State Theatre next week.

His replacement is the Stuttgart tenor, Daniel Kirch.

  • Robert Groen says:

Not much to say here. Vogt is a fine Wagnerian tenor. Hope Kirch is too.

  • Jean says:

As long as Koch and Petrenko don’t cancel…

    • Olassus says:

There are of course six (6) principals in Meistersinger

Bavarian State Opera is offering only three performances (it is a shit staging) and the middle one, on Sept. 27, is CLOSED to the public.

      • Jean says:

No: Bösch’s production is fascinating. I’ve seen it already twice in 2016 and I cannot wait to see it again on Sunday.
No: there are two main characters in Meistersinger : Sachs and the orchestra. And Wolfgang Koch and Kirill Petrenko are nothing but the best to serve this opera.

      • Jean says:

And a third no : Five (5) performances are scheduled : three (3) in September and two (2) in July.
        You’re all wrong bro.

        • Olassus says:

Eva, David, Stolzing, Beckmesser, Sachs and Pogner are all principal roles.

My point about a run of just three dates (July = festival) is that CLOSING one off for the benefit of a university’s anniversary ill serves tax-payers.

40-year-old David Bösch *can* be interesting (his Orfeo) but mostly he harms what he touches, and the values in this Meistersinger are solely musical.

I attended three performances in May and Sept. 2016.

  • SoCal Dan says:

A free livestream of Bayerische Staatsoper’s production of Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg will be shown beginning at 3 pm CEST on 30 September (yes, that’s 6 am PT here in California), and available as video on demand for 24 hours, beginning at 12 pm CEST on 1 October. Check their website for details.

I’m looking forward to seeing and hearing Daniel Kirch on stage in this production (assuming that Klaus Florian Vogt has not yet returned). Kirch recently added the role of Siegfried to his repertoire, to complement his other Wagnerian tenor roles.

  • Fred says:

vogt a Wagnerian tenor????? He’s a mouse tenor just right for perhaps ruiz not even the messenger. Before 1980 he would just be a spieltenor. Melchior, Lorenz, Konya… those were Wagnerian tenors
