Georgian wins $100,000 Honens

The Georgian pianist Nicolas Namoradze has won the 2018 Honens International Piano Competition.

Namoradze, 26, takes away C$100,000 and an Artist Development Program valued at a half-million dollars.

    He is Georgian, but primarily raised and trained in Budapest.

    Judging by the number of “International Piano Competitions” listed on the Alink-Argerich web site alone this year to date, this one will be about number 182.

    “Dime-a-dozen” is probably an understated description of the hundreds of “laureates” generarted by these entirely superfluous events.

    One cannot rescue an institution that has become anachronistic by throwing money at it.

    Or is it intended to rank the “prizewinners” amongst competitions by means of their earnings? Good luck Leeds.
