The teenaged cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason, propelled to fame by his performance at the Harry-and-Meghan royal wedding, has just topped 100,000 sales on Decca.

His debut album spent 13 weeks at #1 in the UK classical charts and he is now by far this year’s top-selling cellist on earth.

And still such a nice guy.

Way to go Sheku! Show the world that the cello is such a beautiful sounding musical instrument, especially when played by you

  • Wally Francis says:

Brilliant News for the recording industry to be sure!

Just as a point of information – he’s accompanied [superbly] by the CBSO under Mirga Grazinyte-Tyla in the Shostakovich first cello concerto and listen out therel for some superlative horn playing from the CBSO’s principal Elspeth Dutch.

If that’s not enough for you he teams up with the CBSO cellos on some of the other tracks.

All ways round a splendid release.

just topped 100,000 sales on Decca…….

Does this mean 100,000 CDs sold or 100,000 listeners on Spotify ????? Can someone clarify this ?

    • Stephen Maddock says:

I believe it means CD sales plus paid downloads from iTunes et al.
Streaming plays would be in addition to this.
