The 10th European Opera Directing Prize, worth 20,000 Euros, has been awarded in Zurich to the British director Gerald Jones and to Karolina Sofulak from Poland.

Some 200 candidates from 32 nations were required to submit a concept for Puccini’s opera Manon Lescaut. Jones and Sofulak were the only ones chosen.

Sofulak, who has assisted at Covent Garden and ENO, will direct Manon Lescaut at next summer’s Holland Park Festival in London.
