Putin’s Russia extends opera director’s house arrest

Kirill Serebrennikov, the international opera director whose criticism annoyed the Putin regime, has been under house arrest since August 2017 on trumped-up charges of embezzlement.

Yesterday, at a custody hearing, his house arrest was extended by another month.

Serebrennikov told the court that, as an artistic director, he had nothing to do with finances. ‘Everything we have read in this case explicitly confirms that what is happening is absolute nonsense,’ he said.

Kafka could have also written the script for last Monday’s Trump-Putin love fest of a press conf in Helsinki. Would that they put each other under house arrest to end the calamity.

This sort of thing always happen immediately after a period when Putin wants the world to be nice to Russia or Russia wants to be seen as nice and normal which everyone knows it is anything but. This time it was the World Cup – and, yes, the ordinary Russian people were genuinely nice because they and the visitors could enjoy themselves together because the authorities and the police and the unofficial state supported racist fascist groups were told to behave or were hidden away. Nobody has anything against the poor repressed and terrorised Russian population except Putin and his cronies. The enemy is of the whole world, and especially of the Russian people, is Putin and his lying, self-serving, corrupt, money-laundering, murderous, terrorist state regime.
