NY Phil books Mahler man for Chinese New Year

We hear that the Singapore conductor Kahchun Wong will make his New York Philharmonic debut next February 6.

Wong, 32, won the 2016 Gustav Mahler Conducting Competition and has gone on to become music director in Nuremburg.

    Chinese New Year is Feb 5, not the 6th (no more than Dec. 31 is common era New Year).

    But why not, Jewish conductors for the Jewish New Year, Iranian conductors for Nowruz, Christian conductors for Jan. 1 (oh right, that’s Vienna).
