Ireland puts its orchestra under concerthall control

The Irish Cabinet has decided to shift responsibility for the national orchestra from the broadcaster, RTE, to the Dublin concert hall.

This is almost invariably a bad idea for musicians and for artistic quality, as Paris is about to find out.

    RTÉ could care less about the orchestra and is appallingly run. The National Concert Hall on the other hand is a well run institution where the orchestra is resident. It may not work out. But it could no time be worse than things are right now. RTÉ are allowing the orchestra to die on the vine. Good luck to them.
