  • Caravaggio says:

    Yada Yada Yada

  • Sharon B Long says:

Wonderful that this was the first concert in Israel

  • Barry Guerrero says:

It might be window dressing, but it’s a step in the right direction. I think.

  • william osborne says:

Even if this might be partially oriented toward public relations, it is still an important gesture and brightens my day. There’s very interesting info about Oasis of Peace, called Neva Shalom in Hebrew and Wahat-al-Salam in Arabic, here:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neve_Shalom

From what I have been able to read, the village seems to take its mission very seriously.

  • anon says:

How many Arabs do you see in the photo?

    • James says:

At a quick glance, I’d say about a dozen. But it’s hard to tell – (very) many Israeli Jews are dark-skinned and many Arabs are fair-skinned.

    • Scotty says:

17, plus Waldo in the upper right corner. What do I win?

  • anon says:

In which territory would Yannick, a gay man, most likely be stoned to death, Palestine or Israel?

I like how touring American orchestras and their maestros, white male celebrities, even when they are gay, think the world can easily live in perfect harmony. There are entire swaths of the Middle East that me and my husband cannot visit, share the same hotel room, hold hands, and be expected to leave that country alive.

    Check your privilege.

    • Joel stein says:

He could live very happily in Tel Aviv.

    • Tamino says:

In neither. “in the Gaza Strip, the British Mandate Criminal Code Ordinance, No. 74 of 1936 remains in force and continues to outlaw same-sex acts between men”. The law is not enforced. No penalties are set by the Palestinian authorities.

    • Christabel says:

      Absolutely bravo.

    • Simon says:

Yes prejudice and discrimination is awful isn’t it, imagining living with it since 1948 like the Palestinians have had to.Still at least you are not shot at.

      • Mark says:

All their problems are of their own making. Cry me a river …

        • Tamino says:

Sure. I will buy the land next to your garden from the town, then settle there, declare my own state and occupy your garden too. When you resist, I call you a terrorist and say you brought this all upon yourself. Your land is mine. I have a self made mythology book that says so. Easy.

          • Mark says:

Here is another story for you – Moshe returns to the place from which he ancestors were forcibly expelled. Moshe contents himself with less than 1/3 of the land of his forefathers, which he has to purchase at an exorbitant price from Muhammad, the squatter.
After Moshe turns the swap and the desert into a blooming garden, and builds schools, hospitals, universities etc., the dim-witted and envious Muhammad, instead of following Moshe’s example, attacks him. But Moshe beats the everlasting crap out of him every time.
Now, you’d think Muhammad would learn from his mistakes, but stupidity is a chronic and incurable condition …

  • lavy hollender says:

bravo yannick looking forwards for concert in tel aviv tomorrow

  • Barry Guerrero says:

    Round 3 . . . with more to come.

  • Eyal Braun says:

Amazing concert in Haifa yesterday- espcially for Helen Grimaud Brams first piano concerto . She was absulutely in her prime, never heard her in such a good form before,

The orchestra has still it’s famous “Philadelphia sound” which goes back to the Ormandy era. Fine Tchaikovsky 4th, not very “Russian” at the first movement, magnificant playing, the horn section is surely one of the best I have ever heard.

  • Nik says:

Is ‘express’ not a transitive verb in Canada?

  • Barry Guerrero says:

Not to make an excuse, but I think Quebec French (Quebeque) is his ‘mother tongue’.
