In line sounds like fire squad…lol

  • Tom Moore says:

Yale does not equal New Haven, and vice versa.

  • Tod Brody says:

Not incidentally, Alasdair Neale, in addition to being the music director of the Sun Valley Summer Symphony, is also music director of the Marin Symphony in northern California.

  • boringfileclerk says:

I say this should have been turned into a realty TV show instead!

  • Eric says:

Yale = New Haven orchestra. They are in the same place, geography-wise, but they are not at all connected. This headline is completely incorrect.

    • V.Lind says:

Appalling. None of this has ANYTHING to do with Yale, yet it’s still the headline.

      • carlos2bass says:

The only connection with Yale is that they play on Woolsley hall which is the big concert hall at Yale and that frequently hire yale students as subs or extras.

  • drummerman says:

I had the pleasure of working with Alasdair Neale a number of years ago – guest conductor with an orchestra I was managing. He’s a a wonderful talent, a wonderful person. I don’t know Ms. Miller but I’ve heard good things about Mr. Amado. Sounds like the New Haven Symphony has done a great job in finding these candidates.

BTW, Maestra Miller maybe “London based” but she was born in the USA.

    • Robert King says:

Conversely, I seem to remember that Alasdair had a perfect British accent when he was an excellent flute player (and making an impact as a conductor) at Cambridge University in the early 1980s…

      • drummerman says:

Why is your statement “conversely?” You seem to be basically agreeing with me about Alasdair.

        • Robert King says:

Sorry I wasn’t clear. In adding another detail to your (very complimentary) comment, I simply was enjoying the cross-continental connection of one short-lister being a Brit who lives in the USA, and the other a USA citizen who lives in Brit (and both are indeed extremely talented musicians – a strong shortlist). .

  • Alex Davies says:

At a glance, I mistook Rebecca Miller for Robin Ticciati!

  • YSM alumnus says:

    Misleading headline!
Yale has not orchestra conductor vacancy.
NEW HAVEN SYMPHONY is the orchestra with he three finalists!

  • YSM alumnus says:

    NO orchestra vacancy at Yale.
    Typo.

  • YoYo Mama says:

We have so many American musicians out of work, there needs to be a complete moratorium on hiring foreigners here.

    • Rodrigo says:

      Agree 100%.

    • Richard Lee says:

For what its worth, Alasdair has been living and working in the US for over 30 years. In fact, the only Yale/New Haven Symphony connection that I know of (in this story) is that Alasdair first came to the US to study with Otto Werner Mueller at Yale. And, more importantly…

Permanently etched in my memory (along with Goode’s Waldstein, Sacher conducting Stravinsky and Mozart, Carreras’ NY debut) is the first time I heard Alasdair conduct the Yale lab orchestra. It was stunning…

  • Donald Hansen says:

Alasdair Neale was associate conductor of the San Francisco Symphony for 12 years and also music director of the SF Youth Orchestra. He gave wonderful concerts and was well received everywhere.

  • Eric says:

It’s William Boughton btw, not Broughton.

  • Gaffney Feskoe says:

Interestingly, the New Haven Symphony is the fourth oldest symphony orchestra in the US.
