First the Notos Quartet, then the pianist Igor Levit, objected in the strongest possible fashion to Germany’s ECHO award being given to an act that cracks an Auschwitz joke.

Now, two more classical artists have joined the rejectionists – conductors Enoch zu Guttenberg and Andreas Reiner.

Here’s their message:

Andreas Reiner

UPDATE: Musician Marius Müller-Westernhagen has returned all seven of his ECHO awards.

And Professor Christian Höppner, President of the Deutscher Kulturrat (German Cultural Council), has resigned from the Echo Prize Ethics Commission after finding a further song by the rappers calling for ‘another Holocaust’.

According to Billboard.com, Mr.Börnsen(spokes man) said “After an intense and occasionally controversial discussion, the majority of the board has decided that the elimination is not the right way.”……and does Mr.Höppner resign as it now saying that they found a further song? Now?

“… elimination is not the right way.”

      I agree.

I think this “controversy” has gone too far. I’ve read somewhere that there are very strict laws in Germany against anti-semitism and other racism. Why are those thugs allowed to “sing” that way?

      • Me! says:

The line in the song “My body is more defined than those of Auschwitz inmates.” should be illegal in your view and the artists jailed??
