Peter Lloyd, principal flute of the London Symphony Orchestra from 1967 to 1987, died today in Bristol. He was 86.

From 1993, Peter was professor of flute at the Royal Northern College of Music.

    He was also on the faculty of Indiana University in the late 80s and early 90s where I worked with him when I was a grad student. He was a fantastic teacher and a wonderful man. His solo in the recording of Afternoon of a Faun with LSO/Previn is the one I’ll always have in my ear.
