American conductor wins the Malko

1 Ryan Bancroft, 28, US, who also won the audience prize.
2 Anna Rakitina, 28, Russia
3 Alessandro Bonato, 23, Italy
Originally from Los Angeles, Ryan Bancroft works in the Netherlands and the UK with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Residentie Orkest, Gulbenkian Orchestra, Ulster Orchestra, South Netherlands Philharmonic, North Netherlands Symphony Orchestra, nieuw ensemble, and the BBC Singers.
Having followed the competition: terrible finalists. The three conductors I’d like to see at my orchestra in the UK all went out in the first round.
Which ones were they?
Anna is THE BEST conductor of the 24 competitors. She is PROOF that women will be completely taking over the conducting profession.
What is your informed criteria?
Very likely, but not for their conducting skills, but because of this absurd fashion of pushing women into major positions regardless of their preparation.
Anna Rakitina is incredible! Ryan is good too but she’s very clever and emotional. I watched them live. Thanks God there’s a new generation of GOOD conductors!
