Results in the Copenhagen-based Malko Competition:

1 Ryan Bancroft, 28, US, who also won the audience prize.

 

2 Anna Rakitina, 28, Russia

3 Alessandro Bonato, 23, Italy

Originally from Los Angeles, Ryan Bancroft works in the Netherlands and the UK with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Residentie Orkest, Gulbenkian Orchestra, Ulster Orchestra, South Netherlands Philharmonic, North Netherlands Symphony Orchestra, nieuw ensemble, and the BBC Singers.

    Having followed the competition: terrible finalists. The three conductors I’d like to see at my orchestra in the UK all went out in the first round.

    Anna Rakitina is incredible! Ryan is good too but she’s very clever and emotional. I watched them live. Thanks God there’s a new generation of GOOD conductors!
