Vienna urgently seeks two concertmasters

The Vienna Symphony is advertising for not one fulltime concertmaster but two, which is unusual.

Not clear yet who is pulling out.

One position comes with a Guadagnini attached. It also entails summer on the lake.

Deadline for applying: March 8.

  • My both concertmaster-colleagues will retire next year, so it is kind of planned situation of replacing the vacancies.

    • Positions other than UK’s “Leader” and “Concertmaster” referring only to 1st violins are referred to as “Principals.”

      • I take it you neglected to click on the link above before commenting…..
Apart from the Staatskapelle Dresden, there are a few other German orchestras that have “Konzertmeister” (or “Concertmaster”) positions in both, the first and the second violins (ie. Gewandhausorchester, Staatskapelle Berlin, Dresdner Philharmonie, Konzerthausorchester Berlin).
Regarding the cello section, I know of three orchestras that have a “Konzertmeister”/”Concertmaster” position in the cellos…the Staatskapelle Dresden (which has two such positions), the Münchner Philharmoniker and the Hessisches Staatsorchester (each with one such position).

  • Thank you for helping to spread the word. As Anton said two of our three concertmasters will retire – as always planned – in 2019: one in spring 2019, the other towards the end of 2019. Regarding those leaving dates we are currenty well within the usual time frame of the “recruitment process”.

If these openings spark the interest of anyone who considers us an equally accomplished sibling: all applications are very welcome. The deadline for the first opening ends tomorrow. To apply for auditioning visit http://www.muv.ac/de/wiener-symphoniker
