IMG’s Nick Mathias has signed the Santa Cecilia concertmaster Roberto González-Monjas to his conductor list.

Roberto has been spending his summers conducting ensembles in Verbier and Nick has been working overtime to replace lost revenues.

  • Alejandro Escribano says:

Una gran satisfacción que Roberto fiche por una agencia tan importante

  • Hanna Nahan says:

Again with the ‘revenues’ you tedious man… Any interest in art these days in Lebrecht Towers?

  • Talking the talk says:

Cleary Mr Mathias is on the look out for new talent, none of which seems to be in the shape of a woman. Odds on that he’ll finish his career have never represented one. His choice naturally but it does seem to indicate a rather dinosaur like attitude to his professional life, you’d think a with his reputation he’d have a more dynamic and forward thinking approach.

  • Charles Clark Maxwell says:

He was the wonderful and responsive concertmaster in the Quasthoff St Mathew Passion, a film of which was once posted here.

  • YoYo Mama says:

This is what killed Musical America as a publication, the sickening focus on the business of music instead of the art. The business is a sideline, the parasites a vile necessity at times, not the central focus. Gossip is one thing, interest is another.

    • Nick2 says:

To suggest that “the business is a sideline” is plain nonsense! Without agents, managers, administrators and so on, no matter how much one might wish otherwise, the “art” cannot function. Does YoYo Mama seriously expect each individual artist and performing ensemble to negotiate their own deals or obtain their own advice about career development? And with whom? The art should of course be of paramount importance. Making it possible is the duty of the business.
