When did I last hear a mandolin concerto? Yesterday, when I listened to a cd of Vivaldi concertos.

Definition of a gentleman…one who knows how to play the (delete as per) mandolin, banjo, bagpipes but choses not to do it in public.
The poor chap seems to be like Larry Adler-startlingly talented on something with very limited appeal.

  • Rob McAlear says:

Chris Thile wrote a terrific mandolin concerto about a decade ago. Audience video on YouTube of one of its rare performances.

  • Keane Southard says:

Last one I remember hearing, although not live, was Avner Dorman’s peformed by Avi Avital: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nB93rrlieN4

  • John Borstlap says:

But this is a very nice, folky piece, with Middle-Eastern references. It’s a relief that sometimes also something nice comes from that region.

  • Paz says:

A few years ago, live at London’s St James’s Piccadilly. A terrific work by Israeli composer, Gilad Hochman. https://youtu.be/hJRwfSCAXH8
