The death is reported of Colin Brumby, a prominent composer who lived all his adult life in Brisbane.

He was music director of the Queensland Opera Company and wrote extensively for stage.

    So sorry to hear this! He wrote a lovely piano concerto. Totally out of step with the times, but very beautiful. I can’t find it on YouTube, but here is the slow movement of his Flute Concerto. R.I.P.

    Classical music is meant to be timeless, not “in step with the times.” Only no-talents go with the times, and he had real talent. You can always judge a composer by how well they write for the harp. A real talent writes well for it.
