The memoirs of harpsichordist Zuzana Ruzickova, who died in September aged 90, have been bought by Bloomsbury, the original Harry Potter publisher.

Ruzickova survived three Nazi concentration camps and a brutally antisemitic Communist regime.

Publication is scheduled for Spring 2019.

did she write them in Czech? who’s the translator?

The great Harry Potter hoax: “…curious is that Bloomsbury Publishing was so new when it began working with Rowling. It became publicly registered in the UK in 1994, and in 1998 Bloomsbury USA was established. The first Harry Potter came out in 1997. Strange to find a new publishing house taking on an unknown writer and immediately making her book the biggest thing ever. The first book is said to have sold over 100 million copies worldwide, and the series has sold almost half a billion units….”

This Miles Mathis story is a real hoot and a half. The Harry Potter / Bloomsbury link to Henry VIII is hysterical if you don’t get dizzy from all the improbable twists and turns that happen at lightning speed along the way. I haven’t had a laugh like that in a good while. Thanks!

Ye gods and little fishes!!!! I have some acquaintance with conspiracy theories in this vein from my work as an historian (now emeritus), but I must think that this one takes the biscuit. I don’t recall one so jam-packed with twisty by-ways he follows, often very briefly, just in order to indict yet some other person/organization/movement. In one brief paragraph, he writes that George Hoare must be a communist agent because he wrote a book on Gramsci in 2015 published by Bloomsbury. The next thing I know I’m looking at “Salem Witchcraft”, on which I used to base a course on Historigraphy. I skipped the link he provides to that — my blood pressure, you know. The thing is so perverse that it is actually fun!! It’s 5.21 a.m. and I’ve got a splitting headache, but I was still laughing as I read. Normally, I’d order MY agents in the ‘Cognitive Adjustment Unit’ to visit Chigolum, but this time I just bookmarked the link article, keeping it as an exemplar.

I have to say that Mr. Mathis (whoever he is) has a real talent for his kind of sophisticated verbal sleight-of-hand. it’s not so easy to keep the pace of nonsense going as he does without a metaphorical breath..

Unfortunately, there is a significant contingent that eats this kind of thing up, no matter how absurd on the face of it. For what reason they do Maybe it’s the deep seated
fear that there is something beyond reality that controls life.

In North America there is an extremely popular overnight radio show (that’s been on for years) that specializes in and takes seriously every crackpot theory in existence – from every kind of government conspiracy, outlier theories of long understood historical events, right wing “views” of science (global warming deniers), alien visitations and assorted UFO “news,” visitations from the dead and other hauntings, something called “remote viewing” where people close their eyes and see what lies hundreds of miles away, and mysterious holes in the earth that leads to other dimensions (or something like that). There isn’t a single crackpot idea that isn’t taken at face value.

Mr. Mathis is new to me. I’ll have to share that with friends who also could use a laugh in these very unfunny days.
