This harrowing video – an ex-home video – comes from the pianist Rudolf Budginas.

Rudolf writes: ‘Many of you asking about us here in SANTA ROSA. Here it is. Shit happens to everyone on the bigger or smaller scale. We always think it is big but there is always bigger. Our house burned down and we lost everything. But … I’m left with people around me and long adventure which I am sure will be uncomfortable and meaningful.’

This is absolutely dreadful. Sympathy for you and your loved ones. The arduous task of rebuilding will require all the resilience you can muster. I live in Australia and we have fires all the time, especially this Spring after months without rain – so your story is a familiar one to us. As I write this I have our legal documents and photographs/valuables stored in plastic tubs with lids awaiting an sms should a fire break out near our home. As luck would have it, the central bush fire control unit was recently built just half a kilometer from our house – helicopters and all.

Very best of luck to you.

So sorry to hear of this terrible loss.

My family also lost everything in a fire — but in the end, it’s only people that matter.

    Best wishes to you!

  • Nancy Ballaine says:

The Carroll family is so sorry for your loss. This was our mother’s home before your family bought the house. We had many happy days there. We hope your family can rebuild a beautiful new home and fill it with wonderful memories. We wish you the best.
