The Salzburg Festival is donating 50,000 Euro to facilitate musical education for Syrian refugee children in Jordan over the next two years.

The money is the net profit from ticket sales for the dress rehearsal of Aida, conducted by Riccardo Muti and directed by Shirin Neshat, with Anna Netrebko in the title role.

Anna Netrebko is an opportunist and hypocrite. Anything goes to promote and advance her career. On the one hand she ingratiates herself with Putin (he of complicity with al-Assad in war crimes) protégés such as Valery Gergiev. On the other, here she is donating funds to “help” the unfortunate victims of, well, you guessed it. On which side of the red line does she stand?

(Oh right, “music is not politics”, says you)

in my opinion your are biased and not right …. she is gorgeous and good nature … and her life is not so easy as you could think 😉

      • Ungeheuer says:

Maybe. But she shouldn’t have it both ways. Most of us can’t.

…. you know I find Mr.Obama a secret agent ( a kind of hidden influencer) of Islamic State or so , it was he who let all those muslim conflicts explode in his times and this is not a joke – at the same time I don’t think it is necessary to speak out on the subject like that here – blog is about classical music and related things ( like , I hope , score human values, culture and related people) … just my opinion , of course – less time to be upset – more time to enjoy the music 😉

    How moving!
From one of the most “glamorous” musical (and others) festival, the overfed, the overdressed seem to be concerned by the lack of “musical education” in the Syrian refugee camps.
It happens to think that the refugee kids in Syria are in dire need of food, clothing, medicaments and shelter.
This generous gift reminds me Marie-Antoinette recommendation to the starving population to eat cake if they cannot afford bread!
