Stemme had actually pulled out of the last two performances, the 10th and the 15th. I heard Evgenia Muraveva on the 10th and she was excellent.

  • Martain Smith says:

Read TheOperaCritic review of her – very positive!

    Read TheOperaCritic review!

  • erich says:

Even the great festivals are not immune from miscasting and the otherwise wonderful Miss Stemme possibly decided to accept this fact and make way for a much more plausible replacement. A pity that Miss Schwanewilms in the Bayreuth Meistersinger could not have been persuaded to take the same action

Sorry to go off topic, but I thought Norman might be interested in this story. Rumor has it that the conductor Theodore Kuchar who was run out of town on a rail by the orchestra in Fresno, California has now been summarily booted from the Reno Chamber Orchestra AND the Nevada Chamber Music Festival. Three strikes and you’re OUT!

    • Lorac says:

Just curious, Doug, do you have any more information, other that what you have posted? From what I understand, Maestro Theodore Kuchar is stepping down, not being “booted”. I do believe there is more to the story. It’s just not being discussed in public, mainly because Classical Music is such an insular world, and reputations are at stake.

      • Doug says:

Try sexual harassment coupled with a propensity to undermine colleagues as opposed to supporting them. Just your run of the mill sociopathic behavior.

        • Lorac says:

Thank you for your insight, Doug. Definitely a strongly worded statement, indeed!

        • Daphne H. says:

Hello, just wondering where you came by your information about Maestro Kuchar and the RCO, as it sounds very “insider” sourced. Care to identify your source or at least the path by which you came by these details? Thanks.

  • Lorac says:

Actually, there is a lot more to the story, and it is not being discussed in public.

  • Pedro says:

Evgenia Muraveva will also sing in tomorrow’s performance. I hope she is good because I have a ticket for it.

  • Nik says:

I’ve a ticket for tomorrow and only found out about the change on this blog. No announcement from the festival?
Just back from the opening night of Lear. A towering achievement. Well done to all involved!
