Over the past three weeks, we have heard from hundreds of readers that their daily email summary of Slipped Disc stories was not arriving. We have finally isolated and adjusted the fault and the emails should arrive normally from today onwards.

This is a free service for the time being. (It may not always be so.)

If you wish to subscribe to the daily email, please insert your preferred email in the box at the foot of the Slipped Disc front page, here, where it says ‘sign up’.

If you are an existing subscriber who is still not receiving emails, please resubscribe under a different address.

In view of the sheer volume – we have 1.4 million monthly readers – we cannot respond to individual issues.

Thank you for your understanding.

TIP: If you want to be sure you are not missing any Slipped Disc posts, do as the professionals do – make www.slippedisc.com your computer’s home page.

1.4 million monthly readers — bravo!

    • Hermann van Clomp says:

Ah but when old Murdoch set up his Times subscription on line folk gave it up and readership plummeted 90%. Most of the info here is cut and pasted from elsewhere, why pay for stuff from a third party?

  • Britcellist says:

Is there an IPhone app for Slipped Disc? I couldn’t find it in the App Store.

    • Wise Up says:

What is an app? Only joking! I doubt they have heard of one. Most of the stuff on this site is lifted off others, the real useful stuff like jobs, grants, money etc are never mentioned. If they start charging, it will go like the Times on line! Best to dig your own info up than get it third party.

    • Alvaro says:

haha! You think too much of the classical music world. They are barely discovering what HTML and Windows 95 is.

Cant even get their mobile site to run properly, but that doesnt deter anybody from self adulation and narcissism.

      BRA-VO!

  • Brian B says:

    except:

    This page isn’t working

slippedisc.com is currently unable to handle this request.

  • Barbara says:

Glad you are back. It might have been a good idea to assure readers right at the beginning of the trouble that there was a fault and it was being fixed then there wouldn’t have been the inundation of e-mails from the hundreds of subscribers which probably was a great nuisance to handle. A “Daily e-mails temporarily suspended ” notice on the web-site would have helped.
Anyway, as I said, glad you are back.

    • Hermann van Clomp says:

Ah the joys of IT I have long since given it up. I have gone back to using Goose quills and cuttlefish ink, I find recipients like Bank managers etc give a more favourable response, when they receive my illuminated manuscripts on vellum. Goose quills tips I use in my harpsichord instead of nylon etc, ugh modern materials! Must go pluck another in the morning and get it ready for stuffing.

  • Marg says:

Hurrah, Im so relieved to know it wasnt just some quirk in my system that I couldnt get the daily update, though once every few days a comment on an article on which I had also posted, would come through. I hope the problems are now fixed. Terrific that you have such a wide readership!

    • Wise Up says:

If they start charging for access to info gleaned by a cut and paste job, readership will plummet like Murdoch’s Times! Most of the stuff on here can be found elsewhere, why pay?

  • Vengerov Maxim says:

I am sure that Slippedisk has to pay its employees, so that we, in the arts community, could benefit from its informative newscast. Of course there are plenty of websites out there that generate their revenue through advertising, free news agencies and free content streaming networks among them. My question is: would we like to mix music-related matter with ads? It’s like watching a movie on TV channel, along with five or six ads that keep interrupting it.

I feel strongly about keeping Music pure and free of ads (let them appear where they belong —on the sites devoted to their purposes).

Speaking of music, my opinion is that not everything has to be provided for free or to function as a part of the larger services. Some content should be ‘given away,’ so people could preview what they are getting themselves into. But after the decision has been made, they must contribute to the artist or to the arts news network. This way, we can remain hopeful that we receive the quality “product” without a compromise while promoting the right spirit and long and healthy life of the music industry. Let’s face it, as we all know, the Internet was never meant to be really free. We pay for it dearly in many ways. For instance, 20 years ago, a family bought one stereo system and one TV set and kept it for as long as the equipment lasted. Today, in order to keep up with the rapid technological changes, a consumer needs to upgrade his or her smart phone every other year.
The Internet is heaven for the giants like Apple, Amazon, Google, Facebook etc. These giants give us the illusion of having the ‘world’ on our screens for free. But at the same time, this free multitude of mostly ‘poor quality’ information dilutes the significance of what we really desire to read, listen and watch.
My mentor Maestro Rostropovich told me once:
“Maxim, if you wish to learn a new language, take a great teacher and pay him or her generously, so, you can learn this language faster.”

So, I would be happy to sign up for Slippedisc paid service simply for the reason that I trust this network to bring me up to date with all that is happening in music world today.

    • Geezer says:

Balls, who would pay for information cut and pasted from elsewhere? Wise up man, this stuff can be dug up in google for free.

    • Eduardo Marturet says:

Totally agree, Slipped Disc is a great service, I would also be willing to pay for it.
      So glad you’re back.

  • Atze Sytsma says:

Norman, a friend wants to register, but this doesn’t work. Nowhere to be found “sign up”.

  • Cannot find any way to subscribe to Slipped Disc. Please provide a working link. Thank you.
