What happens? You actually do work and discover music on your own, without the aid of a stupid computer algorithm. Then you purchase your music by buying physical media and thereby give the artist more of the money they deserve. Streaming music services harm classical artists in disturbing ways.

Everyone has a different reason for Soundcloud. For me, music which is not available for commercial recording can be listed in ‘my tracks’. Also, some tracks can be set to ‘private’ mode for non-commercial sharing of a particular new work which is otherwise not available for perusal for a conductor or orchestra administrator.

hmm…so the solution to losing a massive ton of copyright-protected material is to…violate the copyrights?

yes, i understand that copyrights are part of the problem: the labels and publishers are asking for so much money that it is impossible to afford to stay in business. but operating this way is just asking for a lawsuit…and while Google may have the financial ability to survive one (Google Books), the same can’t be said for a small operation that has less operating revenue than the company whose assets they’re trying to save.
