The Cleveland Orchestra was forced to cancel its annual “Star-Spangled Spectacular” on Friday when heavy storms hit the city.

‘We held out as long as possible with the hope of weather clearing,’ said the orchestra. ‘We appreciate your understanding.’

In Berlin Saturday night, the popular Waldbühne concert was disrupted by rain, which ceased after the interval. Gustavo Dudamel conducted.

  • Greg Takacs says:

It’s a shame because it’s a great opportunity to grow classical music. Concert is free and is really popular for families to attend. Held each year in downtown Cleveland. Usually close to100,000 people attend. Since the orchestra has a busy concert and touring schedule, the concert may not be rescheduled.

  • Bruce says:

My orchestra doesn’t do a lot of outdoor concerts, but there’s usually a “rain date” (typically the following day) on the schedule in case the weather is bad on the official day. We’re not as fancy as Cleveland, though, so it’s probably easier to include something like that in our schedule.
